“Severe Heatwave Hits North and Central India, Temperatures Near 50 Degrees Celsius in Parts of Delhi”
On Tuesday, large portions of northern and central India experienced extremely hot weather conditions, with temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius in Churu, Rajasthan, and Sirsa, Haryana. Additionally, Delhi saw temperatures rise to nine degrees above the normal average.
In Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that at least three weather stations recorded maximum temperatures of 49 degrees Celsius or higher. Specifically, Mungeshpur and Narela registered 49.9 degrees, while Najafgarh reached 49.8 degrees Celsius.
These temperature readings are the highest recorded in Delhi so far this season. However, it is important to note that the Mungeshpur and Narela stations, which were established in 2022, have only three years’ worth of data.
According to a report by PTI, the IMD has indicated that relief from the heatwave may arrive after May 30. A new western disturbance is expected to affect parts of northwest India on Thursday, potentially bringing isolated rainfall over the weekend.
“Himanta Describes ‘Saffron Tsunami’ Sweeping Odisha Elections”
On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a declaration that Odisha has been engulfed by a massive surge of support for the saffron party, likening it to a “tsunami.” He expressed his confidence that the BJP will emerge victorious and form the next government in the state.
In Odisha, both the Lok Sabha and assembly elections are held simultaneously. Sarma, who has actively campaigned in Odisha recently, shared his observations, stating that during his initial election meeting, he noticed a small wave of support for the BJP. However, he witnessed a tremendous surge of support in Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Jagatsinghpur, which he described as a “tsunami.”
Drawing a parallel to his experience in Chhattisgarh, Sarma recalled how a small wave in the beginning eventually transformed into a tsunami by the end of the election. He emphasized that the people of Odisha, renowned for their strong sense of self-respect and pride, would not bow down to VK Pandian, a close aide of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and a bureaucrat-turned-BJD leader.
