Border 2″, the sequel to JP Dutta’s 1997 hit movie of the same name, is slated for a January 2026 premiere. As per a report from Pinkvilla, the crew of the movie starring Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana “has completed the script.” Sunny is set to return as Major Kuldip Singh Chanduri in this follow-up film. Meanwhile, Ayushmann has been brought onboard to portray a significant new character in the approaching movie.
“Border 2 aims to premiere on Friday, January 23, 2026, aligning with the Republic Day holiday on Monday, January 26, 2026. The creators believe that the Republic Day couldn’t be a more fitting date for this film, which commemorates the valor of the Indian Armed Forces. This film starring Sunny Deol and Ayushmann Khurrana is set to make waves,” a source familiar with the project informed Pinkvilla.
The latest findings indicate that, according to an insider, ‘Border 2’ is set to be “India’s most significant war movie”.
It’s been over a year since ‘Border 2’ entered its writing phase, and the crew has developed a script that meets the anticipations one would have for a sequel to an immense hit like ‘Border’. The original ‘Border’, a brainchild of JP Dutta who served as its writer, producer, and director, is a narrative set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. It portrays the events that transpired during the Battle of Longewala. The film boasts a star-studded cast featuring Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Tabu, Raakhee, Pooja Bhatt, Sudesh Berry, Puneet Issar, and Sharbani Mukherjee among others.
