India’s duo of Gayatri Gopichand and Trisha Jolly have been knocked out of the Singapore Open. In the semi-finals, Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida from Japan, who are ranked fourth in the world, defeated the Indian pair with a score of 23-21, 21-11 in a match that lasted 47 minutes.

As a result, India’s participation in the tournament has come to an end. Previously, India’s Satwik-Chirag, PV Sindhu, and HS Prannoy had also been eliminated from the competition.

The opening match of the women’s doubles semifinals between Japan and India provided an exhilarating spectacle. Gayatri and Trisha faced a 21-11 defeat in the second game, resulting in their elimination from the tournament.

India’s Trisha and Gayatri secured their spot in the semi-finals by triumphing over the second and sixth-ranked pairs in the world. This marked their first semi-final appearance of the season. In the round of 16, they emerged victorious against South Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee So Hee, who are ranked second globally, in a thrilling three-game match with scores of 21-9, 14-21, and 21-15. Following this impressive win, they advanced to the semi-finals by defeating the sixth-ranked South Korean pair, Kim Yeong and Kong Yong, with scores of 21-18, 21-9, and a nail-biting 24-23. Notably, Trisha and Gayatri had previously reached the semi-finals of the 2023 All England Open, where they secured a commendable third-place finish.

Satwik-Chirag, Sindhu, and Prannoy Already Eliminated

In the Singapore Open tournament, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the Indian duo ranked No. 1 in the world, suffered a loss in the Round of 32 to the Danish pair. The match ended in straight games with a score of 22-20, 21-18. Moving on to the men’s singles, India’s HS Prannoy faced a defeat against Japan’s 11th seeded player, Kenta Nishimoto, after a thrilling three-set match that ended with a score of 13-21, 21-14, 15-21. Meanwhile, in the Round of 16 of the women’s singles, Spanish player Carolina Marin emerged victorious against Olympic medalist PV Sindhu in a closely contested match that ended with a score of 21-11, 11-21, 20-22.
