Israel- Gaza war :Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz warned on Saturday that he would step down from his position unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented and sanctioned a post-conflict strategy for the Gaza Strip. During a televised speech, Gantz emphasized that the war cabinet must devise a strategy by June 8 to achieve six key national strategic objectives.
The war cabinet needs to devise and endorse a strategy by June 8 to achieve six crucial national objectives, or we will have no choice but to step down from the government, Gantz stated, according to AFP.
Discussing the six objectives, Gantz mentioned that they involve overthrowing Hamas, securing Israeli control over Palestinian regions, and recovering Israeli captives. “In addition to preserving Israeli security control, create an administration comprising American, European, Arab, and Palestinian representatives to handle civilian matters in the Gaza Strip and establish a future alternative to Hamas,” he stated, according to AFP.
Netanyahu Reacts to Gantz’s Deadline
The Israeli Prime Ministerโs Office has dismissed Gantzโs threat to step down from his position, asserting that his ultimatum regarding the war strategy against Hamas would be detrimental to Israel, according to CNN. The PMโs office also indicated that the ministerโs statements signify a loss for Israel in the conflict.
In response to Gantzโs ultimatum on Saturday, Netanyahu criticized the minister’s demands, describing them as โwashed-up words whose meaning is clear: the end of the war and a defeat for Israel, the abandoning of most of the hostages, leaving Hamas intact, and the establishment of a Palestinian state,โ as reported by AFP.
Israeli Opposition Leader Urges Gantz to Exit Government
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid called on war cabinet ministers Benny Gantz and Gadi Eisenkot to “leave” the administration. He proposed that their departure might result in Netanyahu being ousted.
Addressing Gantz, Lapid remarked, “Stop with the press briefings, stop with the hollow threats, leave! If you weren’t part of the government, we would already be beyond the Netanyahu and Ben-Gvir period,” as reported by CNN.
