Kerala Set for Intense Rainfall; IMD Declares Red Alert in Several Districts for May 19, 20

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall for Kerala in the coming days and has issued a red alert for specific districts on May 19 and 20.

According to PTI, the red alert is in effect for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, and Idukki districts on these dates. Additionally, an orange alert has been announced for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, and Ernakulam during the same period.

Moreover, the IMD has issued an orange alert for nine districts on May 21, anticipating rainfall levels similar to those of a red alert in certain areas. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are expected in isolated parts of Kerala from May 19 to 22. On Saturday, an orange alert is in place for Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Malappuram districts.
