Lionsgate to Produce New ‘Hunger Games’ Film Based on Suzanne Collins Recent Novel

Los Angeles, the studios of Hollywood, have made an announcement regarding their plans to produce a fresh film in the “Hunger Games” series, which will be based on the latest novel penned by Suzanne Collins.

Collins made an announcement on Thursday regarding the upcoming release of the fifth installment in the dystopian series. The novel, titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” is scheduled to be published in the following year.

After a few hours, Adam Fogelson, the head of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, announced that the studio would be working on turning the most recent installment into a movie. They plan to release it in theaters on November 20, 2026.

Renowned filmmaker Francis Lawrence, who has previously directed four films within the franchise, is anticipated to once again take the helm for the upcoming movie. The production of the project will be overseen by Color Force banner, led by producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson.

The franchise known as the “Hunger Games” delves into various themes such as survival, oppression, rebellion, and the ramifications of power. It all began with Collins’ initial novel, “The Hunger Games”, which was then followed by subsequent books titled “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay”.

Lionsgate created the film franchise starting with “The Hunger Games” in 2012, featuring Jennifer Lawrence. The series includes three sequels: “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay โ€“ Part 1,” and “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay โ€“ Part 2.”

The story is set in the dystopian country of Panem, comprising the wealthy Capitol and 13 districts in varying states of poverty. Every year, children from the first 12 districts are selected via lottery to participate in a compulsory televised battle royale death match called The Hunger Games.

In 2020, Suzanne Collins penned a prequel to her trilogy, which she titled “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” Lionsgate then adapted this prequel into a film, released in 2023, featuring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler in the lead roles.

“Sunrise on the Reaping” is set to bring us back to the realm of Panem, but this time, it takes place 24 years prior to the events depicted in “The Hunger Games.” The story unfolds during the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, which is famously referred to as the Second Quarter Quell.
