At least 41 People lost their lives in a Massive fire at a workers’ accommodation in southern Kuwait early on Wednesday morning, according to the country deputy prime minister during a site visit, as reported by Gulf News.
Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al Sabah, Kuwaitโs Deputy PM and head of the interior and defense ministries, blamed real estate owners for the fire in Mangaf, accusing them of violations and excessive greed.
He remarked, โUnfortunately, it is the greed of real estate owners that results in such tragedies.โ
Major General Eid Rashed Hamad noted that the fire was reported to the authorities at 6:00 am local time (0300 GMT).
“The building where the fire took place was designated for workers, and there was a significant number of them present,” stated another senior police commander.
“Many were saved, but regrettably, several lives were lost due to smoke inhalation from the fire.”
The senior police official also mentioned that they “constantly caution against” overcrowding workers in their living quarters.
Nevertheless, he did not share specifics about the type of work employees were involved in or their places of origin.
The fire has been brought under control, and authorities are investigating the cause, officials reported.
