Reliance Jio Increases Prepaid and Postpaid Prices by 12 percent, Launches Unlimited 5G Plans

Reliance Jio has announced a 12% price increase for its prepaid and postpaid plans, effective from July 3, 2024. This price adjustment comes alongside the introduction of new unlimited 5G plans, reflecting the company’s strategy to balance its revenue streams while enhancing its service offerings.

The updated pricing will see the cost of entry-level prepaid plans rise by Rs 20 to Rs 600, while postpaid plans will experience similar increases. Despite the hike, Jio aims to provide added value to its customers through the launch of unlimited 5G plans. These new plans are designed to offer high-speed data without any caps, starting at Rs 239 per month. This move is seen as an effort to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving telecom market, particularly against rivals such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Ideaโ€‹ . Immediately after Jio Hiked the price , Airtel also Increases its rate from July 3.

Analysts from JP Morgan have noted that Jio’s aggressive pricing for its unlimited 5G plans could pressure other operators and potentially delay profitability in the sector. Bharti Airtel, for instance, has been forced to introduce similar plans to maintain its market position, which could impact its average revenue per user (ARPU) and overall financial performanceโ€‹ โ€‹.

Furthermore, Jio has revamped its postpaid offerings to include family plans that provide significant savings for households. The new postpaid plans range from Rs 399 for individual users to Rs 1,000 for families, inclusive of over-the-top (OTT) content subscriptions like Netflix and Amazon Primeโ€‹โ€‹.

This strategic shift highlights Jio’s focus on expanding its user base in the high-end market segments, both in the prepaid and postpaid categories. With these changes, Jio aims to consolidate its position as a leading telecom provider while navigating the competitive landscape of India’s telecom industry.
