“Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Moscow Alleges Kyiv Missile Strike Resulted in 15 Deaths in Belgorod”

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine appears to be unending, with casualties mounting on both sides. Recently, Russia announced that a missile attack from Ukraine resulted in the death of a minimum of 15 individuals in Belgorod on Sunday. According to Russia’s assertions, a 10-story apartment complex in Belgorod was the target of the purported missile strike, as reported by the news outlet Reuters. The assault resulted in the partial collapse of the building. As per Reuters, the attack incorporated two types of missiles — the Tochka ballistic missiles and Adler and RM-70 Vampire (MLRS) multiple-launch rocket systems.

The Russian military department harshly criticized the Ukrainian missile hit on Belgorod, labeling it a “terrorist assault on civilian regions”. Governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, circulated a video from the site displaying at least 10 floors of the building crumble. As first response teams drew near to rescue survivors trapped beneath rubble, the roof gave way, forcing them to hastily seek shelter.

Gladkov stated that there were reports of an additional four individuals losing their lives, with another 27 sustaining injuries due to separate assaults from Ukraine on Sunday.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the nation’s air defense troops successfully obliterated two conventional ballistic missiles from the Soviet era. The ministry reported that these were fired overnight by Ukrainian forces across Belgorod. Moreover, there were reports of a missile strike on a dining establishment in Donetsk, located in eastern Ukraine. This onslaught resulted in three fatalities and eight injured individuals, as reported by Reuters.

The two nations in conflict have consistently asserted that their attacks are not directed towards innocent civilians. Yet, the war that broke out in 2022 has resulted in the death of thousands and has left millions homeless, particularly affecting the cities of Ukraine the hardest.

Nonetheless, Ukraine has provided an explanation for the aggression, stating it to be a ‘retributive action’ amid the increasingly ‘challenging’ circumstances they are facing in the southern Donetsk region due to the continued combat situation.
