Former President Trump Attributes Recent ‘Assassination Attempt’ to Biden and Harris’s ‘Rhetoric’: ‘Internal Enemy’
Following Sunday’s alleged assassination attempt, the second in two months, Trump and his team have stated they will persist with the campaign. They’ve attributed the apparent threat to President Biden and Vice President Harris’s assertions that Trump poses a “threat to democracy,” according to AP. Trump, known for his provocative speeches against opponents, offered no evidence for these claims.
Reuters reports that Trump met with the acting head of the U.S. Secret Service at his Florida residence. On Monday, Biden and Trump spoke via telephone, with the President reportedly expressing relief for Trump’s safety. Trump later described it as “a very nice call” to CNN.
On Sunday, authorities apprehended a suspect at Trump’s Florida golf course, reportedly found with a concealed weapon in the surrounding shrubbery. Trump was present at the time. In July, a sniper had fired at a Trump rally, resulting in one fatality and injuring Trump’s ear. The sniper was fatally shot.
Trump told Fox News Digital on Monday that the alleged would-be shooter “acted on” the “rhetoric of Biden and Harris.” He claimed the Democrats’ statements are causing attempts on his life, despite him being “the one who is going to save the country.” Trump added that the Democrats are “destroying the country โ both from the inside and out,” referring to it as “the enemy from within.”
Trump’s running mate, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, called for the Left to “tone down its rhetoric” following Sunday’s incident. Vance pointed out that while no one has attempted to harm Kamala Harris recently, Trump has faced two alleged assassination attempts in recent months.
Reuters reports that the recent apparent assassination attempt is not expected to significantly alter Trump’s campaign strategy or movements, with the election just seven weeks away.
