“Ukraine Imposes Emergency Blackouts Nationwide Following Russian Attacks on Power Plants”

Following consecutive Russian attacks on power plants, Ukraine initiated emergency power outages on Tuesday due to an electricity shortfall, as reported by AFP. State power company Ukrenergo stated that the Russian assaults have left Kyiv struggling to manage the falling temperatures.

Recently, Moscow has carried out some of its most destructive attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, crippling critical facilities and compelling Kyiv to import electricity from neighboring European Union nations to meet its needs.

Ukrenergo announced the necessity of implementing emergency power cuts across all regions of Kyiv due to the electricity deficit caused by Russian strikes.

“Between 21:00 and midnight (1800-2100 GMT), Ukrenergo must implement regulated emergency power cuts throughout Ukraine,” the company announced on Telegram, according to AFP. “This action is due to a substantial deficit of electricity in the system caused by Russian attacks and heightened usage because of colder weather,” the message explained. The extent of the power outages across the nation, however, remained uncertain.

In Kyiv, officials reported that 10 percent of homes had lost power. Footage circulating on social media from Lviv revealed that buildings in the city center were completely dark, with street lights turned off. Ukrenergo announced that electricity for businesses would be limited throughout Wednesday.
