Two members of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) are scheduled to take their oaths as Union ministers in the NDA government on Sunday evening.
Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, a three-time MP from Srikakulam, will take the oath as a Cabinet minister. Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, a first-time MP at 48, will be sworn in as a minister of state.
The swearing in ceremony of Prime Ministerย Narendra Modi’s council of ministers is set to take place on Sunday.
Ram Mohan Naidu, one of the youngest MPs from Andhra Pradesh, has secured a remarkable third consecutive victory in Srikakulam. He defeated Tilak Perada of YSRCP by an impressive margin of 3.2 lakh votes. Naidu serves as the national general secretary of the TDP and is also the party’s floor leader in the Lok Sabha. His consistent success highlights his significant influence and dedication to his constituency.
His father, the late K Yerran Naidu, was a distinguished leader in the party, serving as both an MLA and MP. He held the position of Union minister in the United Front government from 1996 to 1998. His uncle, K Atchennaidu, currently serves as the MLA for Tekkali and is the president of the TDP state unit.
After attending Delhi Public School, RK Puram, Ram Mohan Naidu did an Electrical Engineering degree from Purdue University in the US state of Indiana, and then an MBA from Long Island.
While working in Singapore, Ram Mohan’s life took a dramatic turn on November 2, 2012, when his father, senior TDP leader K. Yerran Naidu, tragically passed away in a road accident. This event propelled Ram Mohan into the political arena. At just 26, he contested and won the Srikakulam Lok Sabha seat in 2014, becoming the second-youngest MP in the 16th Lok Sabha. Much like his father, Ram Mohan is regarded as one of the most loyal supporters of the TDP chief.
As an MP, he has actively participated in numerous key committees, including the Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing. He has also contributed to the Committees for Railways and Home Affairs, the Consultative Committee on the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, and the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes and the Official Language Department.
His choice to take paternity leave during the 2021 Budget Sessions for his wife’s pregnancy ignited discussions about gender roles. As one of the pioneering MPs advocating for menstrual health and sex education in Parliament, he has also actively championed the removal of GST on sanitary pads.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar, a long-time supporter of the TDP, is set to be sworn in as a Union minister. Contesting for the first time, he defeated YSRCPโs Kilari Venkata Rosaiah by a margin of 3.4 lakh votes. At 48, this NRI medical doctor is one of the wealthiest contestants, with family assets exceeding Rs 5,785 crore. His victory marks a significant milestone for the TDP.
Dr. Chandra Shekar earned his MBBS Degree from Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences in 1999 and later completed his MD in Internal Medicine at Geisinger Medical Centre, Pennsylvania, US, in 2005.
Originating from Burripalem village in Tenali, his family has long been supporters of the TDP, and he is now seeking a ticket to contest in the upcoming elections.
